ABOUT US

Oscar and Dr. Nanci Thomas believed strongly in community and using their talents to make the world a better place. Under the mentorship of master educators Dr. Earl and Eursla Wells, this power couple made plans to start an academy for the arts. Their objective was to "create masterpieces, one child at a time," using art and education to transform the lives of youth. Sadly, Oscar passed away before their dream became reality. 

 

Thankfully, two of the Thomas’s close and trusted friends (Charles Stringer and the late Michael Lawrence) stood by Nanci's side as she walked through the storm. When she emerged from the deluge, they were loyally waiting, encouraging her to pick up all the shattered pieces. Oscar's memory and ancestral voice enabled her to muster all of her strength to create the Foundation. This spiritually conscious, unshakeable trio, strategically united to form the very first Oscar Thomas Foundation Board of Directors.

The South Florida based non-profit youth organization promotes leadership by using art, education, and community service to encourage freedom of self-expression, in the development of imagination and creativity. 

 

For nearly three decades, the Foundation has worked diligently to support quality community programs. Our passion and purpose meld in a desire to provide opportunities for individuals to grow, thrive, and creatively express themselves.

The Oscar Thomas Foundation has touched the lives of countless students, teachers, children, youth, families, senior citizens, and communities who oftentimes, never knew or even met Oscar Thomas.
